Abstract
The research aims at evaluating the mental skills in the secondary school tests in the
Republic of Yemen between 2009-2014, (Mathematics, physics, and Islamic education as a
model). The problem of research is shaped as follows: To what extent do secondary school
tests measure the mental skills that educational trends seek to develop among students in the
third year of the secondary school which depended on Bloom’s classification, and did they
develop between 2009-2014? To achieve this goal, the analytical descriptive method is used,
and it is based on Bloom's classification for mental skills as a research tool. The sample
consists of the general secondary school tests from 2009 to 2014 for Mathematics, Physics,
and Islamic education, which amounted to 4936 questions. Ratios, frequencies, and chi-square
are used as statistical tools. The results of the following research show the following: Focus
on the lower cognitive levels, and negligence of higher cognitive levels. The tests do not
improve in their assessment of cognitive levels from one year to another year, but the contrary
showed a marked decline in tests for recent years.
