TRAUMA-RELATED PSYCHIATRIC DISORDERS

Abstract

An accident-related trauma is an event often beyond human control that causes serious physical injuries. Whether intended or not, it results from a shock, a blow, pressure', and can endanger the victim's life. Accidents represent one of the biggest health hazards in Morocco, one of the main causes of mortality and morbidity. Road traffic accidents are being the first cause of trauma. The physical outcome is handicapping and specific to each patient, while the psychological outcome is vastly unpredictable and can give birth to various secondary psychiatric disorders, hence being responsible of a severe morbidity that drastically alters the recovery process. The purpose of this study is to describe the psychological trauma repercussions and to raise awareness about the adequate management of the psychological aspects of trauma.
